Ben Glasgow, Financial Specialist
‘I've had two new additions to my family: my daughter Billie, and her big brother, a two-year-old sausage dog named Hank. Hank arrived in our family first, when my wife and I were living in a small apartment in inner Sydney during the COVID lockdowns.
We discussed getting a dog for a long time, and one day toward the end of COVID we saw a miniature dachshund for sale on Gumtree.
Hank is a funny little dog. Dachshunds generally have a big personality, and he certainly does!
Around the time Hank joined the household, my wife fell pregnant. I thought it was a good learning curve prior to having a baby. In some ways, he was actually tougher than my daughter was. In terms of getting up in the night when he was a puppy.
My daughter, Billie, was born in April 2022. She’s our first, and she’s really grown into herself over the last couple of months. Obviously, the first few months they're just getting to know the world and sleeping a lot. But recently she's really built up a personality. She is bubbly, and smiling and laughing, always has her tongue out. It's been a great experience.
When Billie and Hank first met, Hank was unsure. He’d never really been around babies. Billie’s crying once set him off, but he quickly came around to her. Nowadays, when we’re all together, he just sort of joins in. He's very pleasant with her and he's just a big brother at the end of the day.’

The Roadmap to Practice Ownership workshops provide tools that help dental, medical, and veterinary professionals confidently take the leap into owning their own practice. In October, our medical finance specialists headed over to Perth for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting (RANZCO 2023).
The team had a great time speaking to the ophthalmologists about their future plans, and how we could financially support them.

We’re proud to continue supporting professional development in the Queensland dental community through our long-standing partnership with the Australian Dental Association Queensland (ADAQ).
In 2023 we offered two dental excellence bursaries; the Practice Bursary of Dental Excellence was awarded to Dr James Gibson from Totally Smiles Townsville, and our Emerging Practitioners Bursary of Dental Excellence was awarded to Dr Grace Toll from Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service. Both recipients received $5,500 to put towards ADAQ CPD courses.

Now in its ninth consecutive year, the ADAVB and BOQ Specialist bursary program provides recognition and funding for professional development to dental practices and recent dental graduates.
Dr Roshin Linus from Bass Coast Health and Dr Alison Tee from Lotus Dental were awarded the 2023 Recent Graduate Bursaries, receiving funding to go towards ADAVB CPD courses. Dr Chieh Chun Gan and his team at Chesterville Dental were awarded the 2023 CPD Practice Bursary and will receive funding for both CPD training programs and ADAVB CPD courses.

Our Sydney team recently participated in OzHarvest’s Cooking for a Cause program. It’s a hands-on cooking class, transforming rescued food into restaurant quality meals that are then delivered directly to local disadvantaged communities. The team enjoyed learning useful cooking tips from the professionals, like how to reduce waste and get the most out of your fresh produce.

We were able to connect with over 1400 new interns and registrars, and showcase how we can support them through this transition, and throughout their careers long-term.
